We arrived to Husk shortly after they opened for dinner service. We didn’t have reservations, but knew patio seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We were meeting friends, so we put our name in and had a drink at the bar. The knowledgeable bar staff offered bourbon recommendations for my husband, while I opted for a tequila cocktail.

When our friends arrived, we were immediately seated on the welcoming patio. Our waiter came over to discuss the menu and take our drink order. The menu changes daily, based on the freshest seasonal ingredients. We all decided to split appetizers family-style to get a sampling of several dishes. We enjoyed a seasonal heirloom tomato and goat cheese salad, beef tartare, skillet cornbread and shrimp and grits. While all were flavorful, the classic shrimp and grits was my favorite.

With a diet of hot chicken and barbecue for part of my Nashville trip, I opted to have a lighter entrée at Husk. I ordered grilled catfish with zucchini and garlic chive atop rice grits. The fish was light and boasted rich flavors from the garlic chive. While I couldn’t quite finish the grits, I devoured the entire filet of fish.

The dessert options sounded tempting, but we were all too full to indulge. The attentive staff kept our water glasses filled and checked in often without being aggressive. Husk is a standout in Nashville’s culinary scene, and a must-stop on your next trip to Music City.
