The capital city of Ecuador is the heart of the LGBTQ+ community in the country. High up in the Andes, Quito has long led the way when it comes to gay rights in the deeply conservative region, making it the best destination for LGBTQ+ travelers.

The Mariscal neighborhood, affectionately known as the pink zone, is where you’ll find the largest selection of gay nightlife, excellent dining and plenty of shopping opportunities. The old town of the city offers a colonial charm, and visitors often lose track of time just gazing at the beautiful architecture as they stroll through the streets. When in Quito, you’ll want to check out the TelefériQo, a sky tram that offers incredible views over the city and surrounding mountains. Both the Basílica del Voto Nacional and the Carondelet Palace are a must for fans of Neo-Gothic or modern architecture.

Adventurers can enjoy a day outside of the city at Cotopaxi National Park, where you’ll find excellent biking trails.

At night, the city comes alive with plenty of bars and clubs to keep you busy. Pravda and Touch Uio are two of the more popular options, both offering strong drinks and dance floors. Dionisios is the oldest drag bar in the city, and offers cabaret and comedy nights, too.

When you’re booking a place to stay, be sure to check out Masay Hostel or Casa Joaquin. These gay-owned bed and breakfasts are centrally located and offer tons of bang for your buck.

Quito is certainly a welcoming place, and your best bet for a relaxing LGBTQ+ getaway in Ecuador.
