Trends / LGBTQIA+

The de facto Mormon capital of the United States is home to a large number of highly religious denizens, which makes it kind of funny its capital city is also something of a gay mecca. Roughly 5 percent of the population of Salt Lake City identifies as LGBTQ and they have no problem living alongside their more conservative neighbors.

The annual Utah Pride Festival and Celebration, hosted by the Utah Pride Center, is one of the largest parades in the state with approximately 35,000 visitors each year. For nightlife, the city has two extremely popular bars in the form of Club Try-Angles, the preeminent place to get your dance on, along with The Sun Trapp, a slightly more laidback neighborhood joint with a jukebox.

Christopher’s Seafood & Prime Steakhouse is the place to go for a well-cooked meal, and it’s a strong supporter of the LGBTQ community in the city. Alternatively, you can check out Sage’s Café, widely known for its delectable selection of vegetarian dishes. Squatter’s Pub is also a great choice for those who prefer a delicious beer with their meal.

If you’re looking for the place to stay, Under the Lindens is a beautiful little B&B that welcomes LGBTQ couples and families with open arms. The Monaco Hotel is a good fit for those seeking more upscale accommodations and it offers a great Pride package each year.
