Londoner in Antigua, Guatemala

Reviews / Restaurant

As you amble through the streets and along the cobblestones of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Antigua, Guatemala, you might find yourself stumbling across a little part of London. Nestled in the heart of Antigua is a brightly lit pub called The Londoner. Owned by an actual Londoner, this bar is the best place in Antigua for genuine, tasty British food. The drinks and the staff aren’t too bad either.

Now, don’t be fooled by those stereotypes — British food is actually delicious. At the Londoner, the fish and chips, only sold on Friday, of course, are to die for. The chicken and mushroom pie, mashed potatoes and homemade gravy will transport you back to the rainy, cockney capital itself, and the bangers and mash (that’s sausages and mashed potatoes in proper English) is the dish that will have you coming back every day until you leave.

The bar is tastefully decorated with a Beatles-inspired mural and a handful of pictures around the bar of famous and infamous Brits. If you’re from England, although you’re probably thinking you came on holiday to get away from London, this place is filled with friendly people, a great atmosphere and no congestion charge in sight. You should definitely take a butcher’s hook (meaning “have a look” in cockney rhyming slang) at this place if you get the chance.
