Marquette County, Michigan, Sets High Standard in Accessible Travel

Situated on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Marquette County boasts a wide variety of accessible and disability-friendly locations. In partnership with Superior Alliance for Independent Living, Marquette County recently created a travel guide of many hotels, restaurants, recreation sites and more to highlight the ways travelers of different ability levels can explore the region.

For activities, Presque Isle Park, a 232-acre forested peninsula, includes accessible paths in the pavilion and marina areas. In addition to marked parking and accessible restrooms, the area offers stunning views of Lake Superior. Mattson Lower Harbor Park, located in downtown Marquette, features accessible, marked parking spaces and accessible restrooms so all can enjoy the 22 acres of grassy open fields for concerts, festivals or just a relaxing picnic.

 

Iron Ore Heritage Trail comes with 47 miles of biking and walking paths, 35 of which are wheelchair-accessible. All visitors can also enjoy the water with the trail’s EZ Launch for kayaks and canoes across from Clark Lambros Beach Park.

Marquette boasts many restaurants with accessible entrances and seating. Delt Bistro, situated downtown, offers guests innovative American dishes. Delt Bistro includes downtown parking, a no-stairs entrance, accessible restrooms and a wide doorway and entrance. Lovers of craft beer can enjoy time at Ore Dock Brewing Co., with its indoor and outdoor seating, tasting room and live music. In addition to downtown parking, the brewery has a no-stairs entrance, open routes, accessible restrooms and a large entryway.

Staying in Marquette has never been easier. Landmark Inn, a quaint hotel downtown, features spacious rooms, elegant décor and downtown parking. The inn also includes a no-stairs entrance, open routes, accessible restrooms, and wide doorways and large thresholds. Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott has a location in the area, boasting views of Lake Superior along with its no-stairs entrance, downtown parking and accessible restrooms.
