These three cities along the Rhine are home to some great museums. Here are some of the best.
In Mainz, make sure to check out the Gutenberg Museum, which tells the story of Johannes Gutenberg. He invented the printing press with movable type, revolutionizing the spread of information.
The Roman-Germanic Central Museum is another good spot to spend a few hours, illuminating visitors about the period when the ancient Romans ruled Mainz.
In Dusseldorf, car lovers will be fascinated by the Classic Remise Dusseldorf. This museum is home to a huge collection of classic cars housed inside an old railway roundhouse.
Over in the Neanderthal Museum, visitors to Dusseldorf can learn about our ancient ancestors the cave men, while Museum Kunstplast is filled with a huge array of exhibits about glass craftsmanship.
The city of Cologne also has its own Romano-Germanic Museum situated right next to the cathedral. It sits on the foundations of a Roman villa, and right in the middle is the famous Dionysus Mosaic.
For a more contemporary experience, check out the Farina Fragrance Museum. This building is the oldest fragrance factory in the world, and eau de Cologne was invented here.
