Remember in those science fiction movies when the main character made a tiny gesture with their hand and the computer screen responded? Remember how that was science fiction? Well, not anymore. Now, with the MYO Gesture Control Armband, that is reality.
The Armband’s primary function is for presentations. The device slips onto the forearm and reads the electrical activity in the muscles. It delivers wireless control of a computer screen with simple hand gestures. It can also be used to control music, games and other applications. The device pairs with Word, Keynote, PowerPoint, Adobe, Prezi and many other applications (https://market.myo.com/).
The Armband is also programmable, giving the user the ability to assign five gesture controls to keyboard and mouse commands. The five distinct gestures are making a fist, waving left, waving right, fingers spread and double tapping. In addition, users can export their own configurations to use with other applications or use the open API and free SDK to create scripts and applications. Thus computer-savvy users can program the device to control home automation, drones, virtual reality and many other devices.
The Armband is made from eight medical-grade, stainless-steel electromyography sensors, a nine-axis IMU, dual indicator LEDs, an ARM Cortex M4 Processor and a rechargeable lithium ion battery. All sounds pretty sci-fi.
