Film festivals offer cinephiles a chance to see tomorrow’s masterpieces before they hit theaters. Whether you’re looking for a blockbuster smash or an indie darling, here are nine events to look forward to this year

Cannes Film Festival

Cannes might be the most prestigious of all the festivals on this list. Located in the South of France, expect plenty of glamour and showcases from the most highly regarded filmmakers in the world.

American Black Film Festival

Entries for this festival require at least one person on the project to be black, making it one of the most diverse events in cinema. It is highly attended by the industry, serving as a launching pad for filmmakers in the black community.

Dubai International Film Festival

DIFF is much younger than Cannes, but it can easily compete in terms of star power. The festival quickly rose to become one of the most important events in the region, drawing top Hollywood talent alongside the best filmmakers from the Middle East and North Africa.

Venice Film Festival

Unlike Dubai, the Venice Film Festival is the oldest in the world, making it one of the most prestigious places to showcase a film. It’s set against the backdrop of Venice Biennale, an exhibition for contemporary art held every two years.

Tribeca Film Festival

This event is often credited with reinvigorating Lower Manhattan after 9/11, as well as redefining what a film festival experience should supposed be like. Tribeca showcases several hundred screenings and draws an estimated 3 million people each year, making it one of the fastest-growing events in the industry.

South by Southwest

Not a film festival per se, SXSW started out as a music festival before becoming an art, culture and technology extravaganza. Somewhere along the line, people realized the power of its audience and began premiering movies there before organizers created a full-on film festival.

International Documentary Festival Amsterdam

On demand video like Netflix helped documentary filmmaking explode in the past decade. While IDFA doesn’t get much press in the States, the festival is an important event for non-fiction film. Many of your favorite documentaries were either financed or showcased here.

Citizen Jane Film Festival

This festival was created as an outlet for females, aiming to provide funding for women-driven films and fighting to create more opportunities in a male-dominated industry.

Sundance Film Festival

Sundance is pretty much synonymous with indie movies in America, transforming a sleepy mountain town into a hotbed of forward-thinking filmmakers.

Platform Helps Remote Workers, Business Travelers Find Work-Friendly Hotels

If you’ve ever attempted to work on the go — not necessarily for a business trip, but just because your job offers the flexibility of remote working — you may have struggled with working from your hotel room. Your options are typically plugging your laptop in next to a tiny in-room table, if you’re lucky, or you’re stuck answering emails from your hotel bed — hardly conducive to productivity.
