Tips / Travel

Overnight and international flights can be long, tiring and drawn out, so it is important to make sure you have everything you need at arms’ reach for the long haul. Your carry-on luggage will be your go-to for all international flight necessities, so be sure to triple check you have everything you may need on hand.

First off, every international traveler needs a pen for essential paperwork for customs, as well as passports and IDs. Make sure to pack all confirmation documents or proof of purchase for accommodations once you land so you are ready for any scenario. Having money and credit cards available in your carry-on or personal item will be helpful for in-flight purchases or just safekeeping.

Now that you have all of the essential documents packed for safekeeping and peace of mind, begin packing overnight amenities. International flights can be difficult to sleep through, but packing a neck pillow, earplugs, headphones, a scarf or sleep mask and slipper-like socks can help.

With movies, games and TV shows available on most international flights, headphones will be a lifesaver. Pack a book or pre-loaded device so if you can’t get to sleep, at least you will never be bored. Don’t forget to have a charger.

Long flights take a toll on our minds and bodies, so make sure to pack small hygiene essentials. A toothbrush, toothpaste, tissues and all other small lotions and soaps you may need on your trip will come in handy in the carry-on.

Lastly, snacks can be helpful on a long flight. Packing small and nourishing foods can keep your mind off the dinner cart and allow you to enjoy the flight at your own pace.
