For those lucky enough to fly first class, there are some new amenities now available in addition to the traditional wide-leather seats, hot towels and complimentary champagne. United offers first-class travelers a premium skincare kit, optional turn-down service, massaging seats with lumbar support and back stimulation and on-demand programming, including a personal 15.4-inch video monitor. If you fly British Airways, you will be treated to a relaxing facial and massage from Britain’s leading luxury spa and skincare brand, Elemis. Here are a few more standout first-class perks:
Singapore Airlines: Pajamas and bedding designed by Givenchy and restrooms with a full-sized Hollywood mirror
Emirates: An in-flight shower spa made of marble, dedicated shower attendants and organic shower kits
Virgin Atlantic: Pre-flight haircut courtesy of Bumble and Bumble New York.
Cathay Pacific: Designer sleep masks, slippers and cabins featuring vases with fresh orchids to channel positive feng shui.
Swiss International Air Lines: Eye cream, hand cream and lip balm by La Prairie, as well as an adjustable privacy wall.
If you’re flying first class, it won’t be cheap. The average domestic first-class flight starts at around $1,000, and international excursions can cost upwards of $10,000, depending on your destination. There are a few ways you can score these luxury seats for less though: accumulating frequent-flyer miles, searching for discount tickets or upgrade vouchers for sale, volunteering to be “bumped” on an overbooked flight and booking directly with an airline or travel agent.
So if you’re looking for more than just a bag of peanuts and a can of flat soda in coach, it will cost you, but it will likely be a flight you’ll never forget.
