The phrase “Thanksgiving dinner” typically conjures up images of mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and, of course, turkey. For many Americans, though, certain dietary restrictions, allergies and lifestyle choices mean passing on a lot of traditional holiday food favorites.
If you are planning on hosting Thanksgiving this year, or planning on contributing a dish for someone else’s gathering, here are some resources for whipping up delicious eats for all tastes. After all, the holidays are meant to be a time of giving — and sharing — the good stuff with people you love.
Gluten-free recipes
Food and Wine Magazine boasts a huge list of do-it-yourself recipes, including tempting treats for Thanksgiving that are gluten-free. Those with gluten intolerance can still enjoy hazelnut-brown-butter brownies, raspberry macarons, triple-layer chocolate macaroon cake, chocolate walnut cookies and much, much more. Your gluten-intolerant loved one will thank you.
Vegan recipes
Our vegan friends shouldn’t be left high and dry with some bland veggies during Thanksgiving dinner. Serve up some stuffed peppers with Thai curry rice and mushrooms; carrot osso buco; mixed mushroom ragout; roasted beets with pistachios, herbs and almonds; rosemary-potato focaccia rolls; and more — head over to Food & Wine’s vegan Thanksgiving for recipes.
