There’s nothing quite like discovering a new place and experiencing all it has to offer. But sometimes, time and money constraints prevent us from traveling to a new destination each weekend.
Instead of lamenting spending another weekend locally, take this time to rediscover your hometown. There’s still plenty left to explore in your area and nearby cities. Follow these tips to fall in love with your hometown again.
Think like a tourist. When visiting a new place, you probably arm yourself with tourist materials, read reviews of local attractions and ask friends for recommendations. Take a look at local travel magazines and check your city’s listings for concerts and events happening around town.
Act like a tourist. Part of traveling is having an open mind and not worrying about the laundry you have to do or the errands you have to run but wanting to experience a new place. Chances are you have not been at every restaurant in your neighborhood, walked down every street or visited every attraction. Act like a visitor and find new places to explore.
Share the experience. Plan a local trip with a friend or family member and try something new together.
