As a resident of San Diego, I may be a bit biased in my praise for the Hotel Del Coronado, but it’s exactly where I recommend all of my visiting friends and family stay. Having spent more than a few nights there myself, I can unequivocally say there’s no better accommodation in the city for travelers.
The location is one of the most central to San Diego, though resting just off the coast on Coronado means you’ll need a car to get to most sites or be comfortable taking public transportation. It sits right on Coronado Beach and has an ice skating rink on the sand every winter. The scenery is absolutely beautiful. The area is also one of the safest in San Diego, though expensive, and the hotel is within walking distance to a plethora of great shopping venues.
The hotel itself is a work of art and houses some pretty lavish rooms. Staying here isn’t cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for. A stay here includes the main pool, beach services, a fitness center, a kid’s playroom, a spa and salon, as well as 24-hour room service. Don’t forget about the famous Sunday brunch where the food is pretty amazing.
Hotel del Coronado also offers rentals for all the beach adventures you can imagine and is located within walking distance to bike rental shops and boat tours. I typically stay in an ocean-view room when I need a break from real life, but they also have more affordable resort- and coastal-view rooms.
It’s definitely worth the price of admission.
