Smart luggage is the latest trend to hit the travel scene. Save for adding wheels, luggage hasn’t changed much since those old canvas suitcases. Now several companies are aiming to bring your bags to the 21st century, like luggage veteran Samsonite with their GeoTrakR.
Samsonite introduced their future offering at last month’s Travel Goods Association trade show in Las Vegas. The bags come with a LugLoc locator device integrated right into the design, allowing owners to track their luggage anytime. LugLoc is a leader in luggage tracking, offering locator devices to be used with your current analog bags. The device connects with an app, allowing you to conveniently pinpoint the location of your lost bags with just a touch of your smartphone.
Being a smart suitcase, the LugLoc device automatically detects when the bag is in-flight, and will shut itself off to prevent interference with avionics. Samsonite will be offering two sizes, a carry-on and a full-size suitcase priced at $280 and $400 respectively. The bags will include 30 free tracks for the initial year, and users will have to pay a monthly fee for continued service.
Not currently on sale, the Samsonite GeoTrakR will be made available this summer.

Provence, France, might be the travel destination most popularly associated with lavender, but don’t overlook Tihany, Hungary. Now, you can experience the results for yourself during Tihany Lavender Festival, June 15–30.
