You’ve just finished a decadent dinner of pasta carbonara and vino rosso in romantic Rome, and then the server delivers the bill. How much should you tip il cameriere?

Tipping is a common aspect of travel people tend to forget to research before they begin their journey. While Americans are accustomed to tipping for services such as dining and food delivery, transportation and salon visits, the same rules do not always apply elsewhere in the world.

Luckily, a mobile app is available to help you handle these unsure situations. GlobeTipping (available for iOS, $0.99) provides tipping rules for more than 200 countries around the world. First, you select the country you are visiting or plan to visit. Then enter the amount of the bill, and if there are multiple diners, you can select the option to split the bill among diners.

GlobeTipping also lets you save locations in case you need to use the app again during your stay, or in case you return to the same location and find your tipping knowledge did not stick.

Although the app does not include tipping information for all situations, downloading the app would be an excellent addition to your collection of international etiquette information.
