Spiritmuseum in Stockholm presents a new experience for guests to Sweden. The museum, obviously focused on all things spirits and libations, opened a new bar on the dock in front of the museum in May, serving up regional whiskies, gins, beer and other spirits, as well as other fermented beverages like kombucha.

“We want to gather and showcase what’s happening in the Swedish beverage industry today,” said Ingrid Leffler, museum director, Spritmuseum. “We have invited around 50 producers from all over Sweden to show how truly diverse the country is. To our knowledge, there is no other place in the country that has done this.”

The bar menu is accompanied by a delicious summer dining menu, created with local ingredients contributed by sustainable and environmentally friendly producers. Large and small plates are available, as are desserts. Throughout the summer, a pop-up on the patio will host guest chefs and guest distillers and brewers.

Additionally, the bar will change in design and theme each year. This year, Karl Grandin created an eclectic and vibrant scene, incorporating painted tabletops and graphics for menus and coasters. At the end of the season, art pieces will be auctioned off, the proceeds benefiting charity.

The bar, which can hold nearly 100 guests, is open through late September, seven days a week. The outdoor space will be moved indoors in the event of rain.

Of course, you won’t want to miss the museum’s various exhibitions. Currently on display is an Absolut art collection and “Sweden: Spirits of a Nation,” which catalogues the country’s “bittersweet” relationship to alcohol. A limited-time Champagne-centric exhibition is on display through October (as Sweden is the 10th-largest Champagne market in the world).
