The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew are home to the largest living plant collection in the world.
Found on the banks of the River Thames in West London, the gardens are a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Around 1 million people visit the 326-acre site each year, with 40,000 species of plants on display across the grounds and in various glasshouses.
Visit different glasshouses to see plants from tropical regions, as well as an extensive collection of orchids. For plant lovers, it’s paradise. For those that don’t have a keen interest in all things horticultural, it’s an interesting day out.
Walk around the canopies of redwood trees on a series of raised platforms, stop off for an ice cream at the café or learn about the plants on a guided tour. Adult tickets cost $17, granting you access to the entire gardens for a whole day.
Kew is found on the London Underground District line, easily accessible from central London. Other notable sites in the area include Syon Park, just on the other side of the river, and Richmond Park, home to a sizeable community of deer.
