A new resort in the Dominican Republic blends luxury and sustainability for a one-of-a-kind stay.
Opening June 2023, Cayo Levantado Resort is an all-inclusive property promoting both natural and internal wellness through a variety of initiatives. For example, the property is landscaped using a conversation-forward approach, prioritizing endemic and biodiverse species. The property will use a bio-digester to reclaim waste for energy purposes. In a socially sustainable move, the property was created in collaboration with Dominican designers and architects.
The resort, from Grupo Piñero, is the first for the brand within the luxury segment. Accommodations range from suites to villas, with amenities like ocean views, plunge pools and, in some cases, adults-only settings. The spa will offer a range of massages and treatments, plus personalized wellness programming. A slow-food restaurant features elevated, wellness-focused, traditional dining.
“With a profound respect for the environment, we focus our expertise on protecting the delicate ecosystem and preserving its spectacular flora and fauna,” said Pablo del Toro, technical environmental advisor, Grupo Piñero. “In order to operate and power the hotel efficiently, gardening, waste management and renewable energy is required. Among the renewable energy sources, you’ll find thermal energy, heat recovery and solar panels.”
