Tips / Travel

Not all traveling backpacks are made equally, so it’s important to do your research when deciding on which to buy. Here are some things to keep in mind.

How Much Room Do You Need?

Travel backpacks come in different sizes, usually 40 to 70L. How much space do you really need? Gather your gear together for your trip and choose a pack that’ll allow it all to fit inside comfortably.

How Long are You Traveling?

Whether your trip will last a few days or a few months can have a huge effect on the type of backpack you need. If you’re hoofing it long distances for weeks at a time, you might actually want to choose a lighter pack to help save strength.

Will It Fit Overhead?

Most travel backpacks might say they work as a carry-on, but once you get to the plane you could find they don’t actually meet the requirements. If you’re to be plane-hopping during your travels and don’t want to pay for extra checked luggage, go with a 40L pack.

Can It Hold Your Laptop?

This one is a biggie for travelers who work as they go. Does the pack have a dedicated, protective spot for your computer? If so, is against your back or away from it where thieves could reach it? Choose wisely.

Does It Have Enough Pockets?

How many storage compartments do you really need? If it’s a lot, then find a pack with extra storage space inside and out. However, if you’re traveling light, there’s no need to go for the pack that looks a little fancy just for appearance sake.
