Tips / Travel

Minimalist travel is a thing and when done properly it can work wonders for your mobility, luggage fees and your back. Here are a few ways to get by while traveling with no more than 10 items.

Dress Like a Hobo

By this we mean be prepared to wear the same outfit multiple times in one week. Traveling isn’t about looking great, it’s about exploring, so pick out your most comfortable shirt and shoes and get comfortable washing them every couple of nights in the sink. Synthetics and merino wool are the way to go.

Leave Toiletries at Home

Toiletries like soap and toothpaste can be found everywhere so don’t bother packing them. Pick up small bottles on the road and keep them in your hotel room, if the hotel doesn’t provide them already.

De-Materialize

Most things can be done electronically these days, so don’t fill your pack with unnecessary items like travel guides, cameras or notepads. Do it all on your phone, which doesn’t take any room in your bag.

Buy a Tiny Bag

If you’re having trouble deciding on the 10 essential items for your trip, help yourself out by purchasing a tiny travel bag. If it can’t fit, it doesn’t go with you. Removing the extra space also helps take away the temptation to pack the worthless items.

Buy Your Water

Don’t put a hefty thermos in your pack when you can get water at a store. Yes, it’ll cost money, but once you buy the first bottle you can hold onto it and refill it throughout the day.
