Large cities like Seattle, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, are undeniably impressive, recognized worldwide as centers of commerce, culture and innovation. There are several smaller cities across the United States, though, offering their own unique charm and character. Here are our top seven.

Top 5 / North America

The craft beer scene in North Charleston is booming. There are new breweries opening frequently. With many to choose from, add these five to your list for your next visit.

Commonhouse Aleworks

Located in the city’s Park Circle neighborhood, Commonhouse Aleworks is the newest brewery on this list with an opening of January 2018. The building features a large taproom and outdoor seating area. The brewery is closed Monday.

Holy City Brewing

Holy City Brewing opened in 2011 in a repurposed warehouse space. The award-winning brewery boasts 20 beers on tap and a full kitchen. Open daily, the brewery serves Sunday brunch 11 a.m.–3 p.m.

COAST Brewing Company

This family-owned brewery is located on an old Navy base. The functioning brewery doesn’t have a separate taproom, but the tasting room is open Thursday–Saturday.

Freehouse Brewery

Situated on the Ashley River, this brewery serves up beer made using organic ingredients. The taproom features a rotating selection of beer, open Monday–Saturday. There is no kitchen, but food trucks stop by often.

Rusty Bull Brewing Company

The brewery offers indoor and outdoor seating with a rotating list of beers brewed in a Belgian style using American influences. The taproom is open daily and features food trucks, usually Wednesday–Saturday.
