Your passport is your lifeline to hopping between countries and eventually returning home to America. Losing it would be a nightmare and it happens all too often. Next time you’re abroad here are a few places to store your passport so you’re less likely to lose or forget it.
In Your Luggage
One thing you’re unlikely to forget is your luggage or your traveling backpack. It contains everything you need and you probably find yourself digging through it multiple times on a trip. Aside from on your body, it’s likely the safest place to stash your passport. Pick a well-hidden pocket or store it underneath your clothes in luggage small enough to use as a carry-on.
A Money Belt
Yes, people still wear these and they’re getting more secure by the day. Stick your passport in a money belt that you keep on your person at all times. This spot doesn’t work too well if you’re constantly taking it off.
Your Underwear
We’re not kidding about this one. There’s actually underwear specifically designed with pockets in them for the wary traveler. Go on and pick up a pair or two and give them a try. You’ll have your passport secured where no one is likely to find it.
Passport Holder/Travel Wallets
Of course, the best solution is to buy a product specifically designed to keep your passport secure. Passport holders and wallets are worn underneath your clothes and securely fashioned around your body or clipped to your pants. No one can see them, but you can feel if they’re there.
In a Safe
Carrying around your passport everywhere you go isn’t always an ideal solution. Instead, invest in a secure safe no one will break into. Leave it in your hotel room and feel comfortable knowing your passport will be there when you get back. Just don’t lose the key or passcode to open it with, or you’re in trouble.
