Texas does everything bigger. The same goes for their food and, in this case, bigger actually is better.
Margaritas
You’ve got to try the frozen margaritas in Dallas, especially at one of the multiple El Fenix locations. They’ve been voted the best margarita in Dallas multiple times and peach is arguably the best flavor.
BBQ
You can’t go to Texas without having some authentic Texas BBQ. Called the best BBQ joint in not only Texas, but in the entire United States by multiple sources, Kerlin BBQ in Austin serves up praise-worthy pork and angus brisket Friday– Sunday only, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. or until they sell out. In other words, get there before it’s gone.
Donuts
Round Rock Donuts, in Round Rock, Texas, (outside Austin) is practically world-famous for their amazing, sugary creations. The original donuts are a bright yellow from the fresh eggs used each day, and are rolled by hand before being fried.
Whataburger
Ask any Texas native where to find their favorite hamburger and they’ll all give you the same resounding answer — Whataburger. The chain spread to a few select locations across the South, but still holds true to their Texas roots. Pair it with a thick, creamy milkshake and you have a Texan’s fast food dream.
Queso
Texans take their queso very, very seriously. Everything must be perfect — the right consistency of the cheese, the right amount of chiles, beef versus no beef. You can find some of the best at La Gloria in San Antonio, where you can get it with or without poblano peppers and chorizo.
