The 89th annual Academy Awards will be held Feb. 26. To gear up for the big show and discover some travel inspiration, check out these Oscar-winning films about travel.

An American in Paris (1951)

The musical film is about American expatriates struggling to make it in Paris. The iconic film won six Oscars, including Best Picture.

Around the World in 80 Days (1956)

Based on the novel of the same name, the film is a comedic adventure tale set in the late 1800s of an inventor who claims he can travel around the entire world in 80 days. The film took home five Oscars, including Best Picture.

Out of Africa (1985)

Based on a memoir, the film follows the travels of its lead, played by Meryl Streep, between Denmark and British East Africa starting in 1913. Out of Africa was nominated for 11 Oscars, taking home seven, including Best Picture.

Titanic (1997)

Though the film tells the story of the ill-fated ship’s maiden voyage, Titanic paints a memorable picture of trans-Atlantic travel. The film set box office and Oscar records, winning a total of 11 Oscars, including Best Picture.

Lost in Translation (2003)

Lost in Translation focuses on the relationship formed between two American strangers — an actor and a recent college graduate — over the course of a week in Tokyo. The film was nominated for four Oscars and took home Best Original Screenplay.
