Under $100: Anchorage, Alaska

Chances are people traveling to Anchorage are looking for the stunning wilderness Alaska is known for. There are plenty of things to do in this cold city, but many of them are outdoors and include physical activity. This is not a place for those who don’t like the cold and those who aren’t willing to spend hours in the cold, walking along a path. For adventurers and those that want to experience a unique travel experience, Anchorage is perfect.

In the morning, take a light stroll or bike ride on some of the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail to catch the first glimpse of Alaskan wilderness. With any luck, travelers will come across moose or other wild animals native to the area. This walk has plenty of areas perfect for stopping and taking photos. In fact, most recommend to take copious photos of the wilderness to capture the beauty for later viewing.

After that walk, stop at a sidewalk vendor and order some of the famous reindeer sausage. This won’t cost more than $7 and allows travelers to experience the city through food. This is a region where the traditional food offered is much different than traditional food in other parts of the world.

Next go to the Alaska Native Heritage Center and learn more about the cultural history. The history of the state is interesting because of the Natives and their lives before colonization. The center covers the history extensively.

For dinner, fill up on seafood at Humpy’s Great Alaskan Ale House. They offer numerous seafood dishes that are filling and mouthwatering. Seafood is always expensive, so plan to spend around $45 to $55 on a full meal.
