Under $100 / Latin America

In addition to the recent news Brazil is dropping visa requirements from a number of countries, there are plenty of reasons to travel to the country’s capital.

Situated in the state of Goias, Brasilia stands out from other Brazilian cities thanks to its distinctive planning and coloration. The city is shaped like an airplane, with the seat of the government surrounding where the plane’s cockpit would be located.

Kick off the morning with a quick visit to L’Amour Du Pan. This coffee shop and French bakery has a robust breakfast menu including everything from croissants to sandwiches and desserts. Get filled up with some great pastries before the day really kicks off. Eat your whole meal for less than $10.

After breakfast, it is time to explore Brasília National Park. You won’t be able to see the entire park, but make sure to chunk out your time so you can thoroughly explore before retiring for lunch. Make sure you see the waterfalls and look for wildlife while you make your ways through trails taking photos.

Go to Restaurante Girassol for lunch. This vegetarian establishment functions on a “weigh and pay” basis. The menu includes salads, pastas and hot dishes. Once you’ve had your fill, get ready for an afternoon touring what makes Brazil function.

Spend the afternoon trekking around the airplane’s front-most portion. The government agencies that make the city and country function are all located near the cockpit. An afternoon walking around the area will let you visit the National Congress, the Supreme Court and other important government bodies.

After some sightseeing, get ready for a delicious dinner. Fogo de Chäo is a Brazillian steakhouse with a variety of top-notch cuts of meat. Options here begin at about $20.

After a full day of adventuring and historic sightseeing, take an early trip back to the hotel, unwind with a drink at the bar for less than $10 and call it a night.
