Daegu is the fourth-largest city in South Korea, and home to a number of scenic attractions and beautiful mountains. Here’s how to explore it all while staying on budget.
Farm Table is a pancake house downtown that is a great spot for breakfast. They specialize in the thick and fluffy soufflé pancakes. All of the dishes are handmade, so it does take a bit of time for the food to come out, but the wait is worth it. Expect to spend less than $10 on breakfast here.
After breakfast, check out the Daegu Bangjja Brassware Museum. It showcases bangjja, hand-forged bonzeware used for presenting royal court cuisine in South Korea. Admission here is free.
For lunch, Hi Thai is a delicious Thai restaurant. Don’t let the line out the door steer you away — the wait times are about 15 minutes max. All dishes are less than $10.
Duryu Park is a great stop after you eat lunch. It is home to one of the tallest observatory towers in South Korea, and is popular for leisure and cultural attractions. Duryu Park is usually busiest during spring, when cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
DaeSung Janguh serves freshwater eel dishes well-known as the four-season health food. When grilled, the fresh water eel gives a sticky texture, yet the taste is clean and contains high protein. Depending on one`s preferences, people can eat it with perilla leaf, dried laver and more. Grilled eel here costs about $24 per plate.
