Under $100 / North America

While visiting the small South Carolina island of are be surprised to find a booming beach town. This quaint area offers prime beach real estate, golf courses and restaurants for locals and a variety of tourists.

While vacationing on Hilton Head Island, many find they don’t necessarily need a car. The town is small and quite walkable, so it is easy to get around cheaply, but for further excursions, rent a bike. With so many bike paths weaving through the town, it is easy to explore the island and ride freely on the beach at night.

Spend the day on one of the many free beaches within walking or biking distance of the town center. Coligny Beach is the most popular as it is so close to everything to do in town, like shopping, dining and Coligny Plaza. For less populated beaches, travel a little further to Fish Haul Creek Beach, Folly Field, Driessen, Ilanders or Mitchelville Beach.

Walk to the Carolina Crab Company for lunch where the outdoor patio is lively and pet friendly. For small-bite lunch plates ranging from $8–13, it will be easy to fill up on clams, crab, shrimp, hushpuppies and more, even on a budget.

The Island Winery is a great happy hour destination for anyone wanting to try homemade peach wine paired with a summer cheese platter. Escape the heat with friends, or take your wine to the beach with bottles ranging from $17 to $21.

There are great miniature golf courses, shopping, tours and free activities scattered throughout the island for locals and tourists to explore. For tourists on a budget, Hilton Head Island will not disappoint.
