Ultra runners and daily joggers alike can appreciate a good themed race, but how many out there are specifically designed for couples? It turns out quite a few. Each year on and around Valentine’s Day, lovers’ races pop up all across the country and they make for great opportunities to stay in shape and explore new cities.
Most of them have low entry fees and require quirky outfits — think pinks and reds galore — with most of them helping out various charities in need. Some of them are even more unique, like the annual Paws for a Cause 5K: Puppy Love in Newberry, Fla., that raises money for shelter animals.
Other festive runs around the United States include the Love ‘Em or Leave ‘Em Dash in San Francisco or the Chocolate & Beer 5K or 10K in Dayton, Ohio. In Oregon, you’ll find the Couple’s Shuffle 10K and the Love Stinks 5K, while in Reston, Va., they hold For the Love of It 10K each year.
The truth is you probably don’t need to be in a relationship to enjoy any of these runs. In fact, it might be a great way have fun on a day normally dominated by couples. This year, pull out the map, pick and city and there’s sure to be a Valentine’s Day run near you.
