When strolling the streets of Barcelona, Spain, you’ll quickly notice wine-and-tapas bars are a dime a dozen, so finding a quality spot to enjoy the region’s best food and drink can feel like finding a needle in a Catalan haystack. But navigating the grids of Eixample — Barcelona’s most central and most modern district — can point you in the right direction, particularly if that direction involves the street of Consell de Cent.

Located near the corner of Consell de Cent and Rambla de Catalunya (the city’s smaller and less touristy Rambla), Vinitus Wine and Tapas Bar takes you back to basics and leaves little to the imagination. The large floor-to-ceiling windows allow passersby to get more than a glimpse of the horseshoe-shaped bar, high-top tables and dining tables where patrons sip on house reds and whites and debate whether to order hot or cold tapas, or a few of both. Bar patrons can view their options before ordering as the daily options are on display behind glass partitions.

Cold salads combine various forms of seafood with light oil and local vegetables (and almost always a few olives) while warm plates feature Catalan classics like patatas bravas (potato wedges with a spicy romesco bravas sauce), ham croquetas and pimientos de padrón (grilled green peppers rolled in olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt). To finish, Vinitus serves the signature Spanish dessert: churros and chocolate.

Due to the popularity of Vinitus, especially on weeknights for the after-work crowd, it is wise to get there early to grab a seat at the bar. ¡Buen provecho!
