It always hurts a little when booking that pricey flight to Europe, so we expect to not face those same prices when we arrive in Europe and are looking for a decent place to eat. Unfortunately, some countries and cities have more expensive restaurants than others.
Sail Croatia, a company providing exceptional travel service and experiences to guests across the United Kingdom, Croatia, Greece and Australia, recently conducted a study to find the cheapest European destinations for eating out. The study compared the average costs of eating out in different restaurant categories (cheap eats; mid-range, three-course meals; and fine-dining) in 10 most-searched travel destinations in Europe.
So, where can you find the cheapest European destinations for eating out?
- Budapest, Hungary
- Warsaw, Poland
- Barcelona, Spain
- Paris, France
- Rome, Italy
Budapest, Hungary, tops the charts as the most affordable city for dining out in Europe in 2023, with an average cost of $56.04 (averaging costs of cheap eats; mid-range three-course meals; and fine-dining experiences). A cheap eat option in Budapest averages $9.90, while a fine-dining experience averages $135.73.
Warsaw comes in second, with an average meal price of $56.42. Expect to pay no more than $10 on average for a cheap eat in the Polish capital.
You’ve probably guessed the city with the highest eating out cost: London. In fact, cheap eats in London costs more than a full, three-course meal in Budapest or Warsaw. An average cheap eat in London is $25.65, while an average fine-dining experience in London is a whopping $233.99.

Yesterday, TSA began enforcing new identification guidelines, a change that’s been a long-time coming. Now, travelers must show a REAL ID-compliant, state-issued ID in order to fly on domestic flights, in lieu of a non-compliant driver’s license (some other forms of identification, such as passports, will still be acceptable).
