Planning a fall trip to Oregon’s Willamette Valley? Here’s what you need to add to your itinerary. It’s all about two words: harvest season.
Vineyards’ harvest season in this region runs mid-September through early November. Despite this, though, you’ll find fewer crowds than if you’d arrived earlier in the year. Visit some vineyards and tasting rooms, or book some winery tours.

Off-the-beaten-path and unique options include Alloro Vineyard, which offers food and wine pairing experiences for lunch; Knudsen Vineyards for a vineyard hike or vineyard yoga session; or Remy Wines, where you can catch the annual Queer Wine Fest in the summer.
Also consider heading to The Vintages, a vintage trailer resort hosting the movies on the lawn event series on weekends through September, with outdoor film screenings, wine tastings and food trucks.

If none of these activities are a fit, you’ll still have plenty of other options, with more than 700 wineries in the region. Found a perfect bottle (or two) you want to take home? Alaska Airlines offers an Oregon Wines Fly Free program, so you can check a case of Oregon wines to take home at no extra cost.

Yesterday, TSA began enforcing new identification guidelines, a change that’s been a long-time coming. Now, travelers must show a REAL ID-compliant, state-issued ID in order to fly on domestic flights, in lieu of a non-compliant driver’s license (some other forms of identification, such as passports, will still be acceptable).
