Small and charming Morro Bay, California, sits right off Highway 1. While it might not be as well-known as some other destinations on the California coast, it still offers plenty to do — and plenty of great views — for visitors. If you happen to be among them this summer, here are the can’t-miss activities to add to your itinerary.
See Morro Rock
Probably the most famous landmark in Morro Bay is Morro Rock, found on Morro Rock Beach. Technically it’s a 23-million-year-old “volcanic plug,” but whether you call it a rock or a plug, there’s no denying it’s impressive, rising out from the beach as it does.

Get Out on the Water
Don’t just go to the beach and look at the water, though. Go out on to the waves when you go kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding. You’ll not only enjoy views of the coastline from a different angle, but you might also make some friends, like local sea otters or sea lions. Wildheart Coastal Adventures can show you the ropes.
Visit the Morro Bay Maritime Museum
When you’re ready to get out of the sun, visit Morro Bay Maritime Museum to learn more about the region’s maritime history and get up close and personal with the museum’s fleet of seacraft.
