Living or traveling in a city is great until you crave some quality outdoor time amongst trees and grass. And, let’s face it, some cities have far more green spaces than others.
Artificial Grass Pros recently conducted a study on available parkland space in the United States’ 100 most-populous cities. Looking at data across each city, the company analyzed GIS data from each city.
The top U.S. city for green space? Chesapeake, Virginia. This city of more than 250,000 residents boasts nearly 60,000 acres of parkland, equating to about 2,300 acres per 10,000 residents. This is as much as 427 percent more than the average acreage per 10,000 of the country’s 100 most populous cities, with 27 percent of its land area consisting of parkland.
Scottsdale, Arizona, comes in second with the most green spaces, with approximately 32,000 acres of parkland for its population of just less than 250,000. The city provides 1,200 acres per 10,000 residents.
Other cities ranking high with the most green space per resident are Fremont, California; Jacksonville, Florida; New Orleans, Louisiana; Honolulu, Hawai’i; North Las Vegas, Nevada; Virginia Beach, Virginia; El Paso, Texas; and Santa Clarita, California.
Green space and the great outdoors have been proven to provide a positive impact on both our physical and mental health. Remember this the next time you plan a trip to a U.S. city!
