Planning a trip to the Midwest this fall? Consider exploring Minnesota with a visit to one of these small towns.
An ideal destination for spooky season, Anoka proudly claims the title of “Halloween Capital of the World.” For more than a century, the town has celebrated the month of October in high style and you can join in on all the fun, with activities ranging from a giant pumpkin expo to parades and contests.

For a fall getaway that feels “small town” without ever actually being too far from the city, try Stillwater. It’s just 30 minutes from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Still, it offers small businesses, including local boutique hotels, and Stillwater Harvest Fest, held the second weekend of October.
Rochester offers loads to love, but if you’re into spooky travel, you’ll want to check out the town’s annual Creepy Doll Contest. Explore the exhibit at History Center of Olmsted County and vote for your favorite creepy dolls.

Lastly, if your idea of fall fun includes plenty of time in the fresh air, head to Red Wing for hiking, biking and apple picking.
