Sports

The UCI World Track Cycling Championships come to London March 2–6.

Races will be held at the Lee Valley VeloPark, which hosted cycling events at the London 2012 Olympics. Top male and female cyclists from around the world will be in town to compete in a variety of events, including time trial, keirin and sprint.

Since Britain’s success in cycling at the 2012 Olympic games, track cycling has enjoyed a higher profile than ever before. While the stars of that campaign, such as Sir Chris Hoy, may now have retired, the next generation of riders like Ed Clancy will be looking to continue a proud legacy. In the women’s section, Laura Trott and company will go wheel-to-wheel with the best in the world, competing for gold medals and the famous rainbow jersey.

Events start Wednesday, March 2, and include the team sprint, which is arguably the most spectacular race of them all. On Sunday, Trott will be looking to take back her crown as the women’s omnium champion from Annette Edmondson of Australia.

Given the popularity of cycling in Britain and the predicted medal haul for the home team, there is sure to be a large crowd in attendance. Further information is available at the official website of the championships, and you can buy tickets from Ticketmaster from $25.
