Trail running, when runners get off the sidewalk and hit terrain ranging from dirt paths to rocky hills, is the latest trend to hit the world of running. Even outdoorsmen are ditching bulky hiking boots for a pair of runners, far lighter, cheaper and more breathable than your typical boot.
While most of the market is dominated by established hiking brands, sports brands like Nike and Adidas gained a lot of traction over the past few years, with the latter reporting a 62 percent increase in pre-orders for its Spring 2017 line of trail runners. The company entered the outdoor market in 2011, growing by double digits every year since.
Adidas’ latest model is the Terrex Swift R GTX, built with a low top construction, ripstop mesh upper and a Gore-Tex liner, as well as a more fashionable design that works well off the trail. Many hiking shoes are brown or beige, and look like they belong in the outdoors. Adidas’ Terrex line, on the other hand, more strongly resembles a basketball shoe.
Available in a variety of colors, the Terrex Swift R GTX is available on Amazon.
