If you aren’t careful, your trip to the beach in New Jersey could turn into an episode of Jersey Shore. The beaches in New Jersey draw large crowds from the tri-state area and beyond, some more boisterous than others. Follow our tips for avoiding crowds and making the most of your New Jersey shore trip.
Park Far Away
If you’re willing to walk, park further away from the beach in a free parking area. Be sure to check street signs before you leave your car and take a photo of the cross street so you remember where you parked.
Go Off the Beaten Path
Long Beach Island, Wildwood, Atlantic City, Point Pleasant and Cape May are among the most popular — and crowded — beach towns in New Jersey. Instead, opt for a more off the beaten path location including Stone Harbor, Island Beach State Park, Pearl Beach at Cape May Point, Brigantine and Avalon.
Avoid Holiday Weekends
Typically, Memorial Day weekend, July 4th and Labor Day weekend are the busiest times at the shore. If those dates are the only time you’re able to visit, aim to arrive early in the morning or late at night to avoid shore traffic.
Visit During the Week
In general, weekdays are less crowded than weekends. If you’re taking a daytrip, leave for the beach after rush hour and go home after the evening rush.
