Mountain climbing has become popular in the travel community. Whether you’re looking to pick up a new sport or simply want to be more adventurous during your travels, it’s a great way to make some lasting memories. Just keep these tips in mind to make sure you stay safe.
Hire a Guide
If it’s your first time climbing, never go out on your own into rough terrain. Hire an experienced guide who knows the best trails for beginners and who can ensure your safety to the top.
Test the Gear
Whether you’ve rented gear or bought something cheap, you need to test it out so you know it can hold up on your trip. Check all of the straps, bolts and padding to ensure a proper fit, otherwise you’ll find yourself halfway up the side of a mountain either stuck or in pain. Also, check with an experienced mountain climber to make sure you have everything you need.
Read
Mountain trails are generally well recorded, so purchase a guidebook and look online for tips and advice. Sometimes it can be difficult to find the proper route to take and you don’t want to get lost in the middle of nowhere. Plan your route ahead of time.
Exercise
Never try to climb up the side of a mountain without getting in proper shape beforehand. Climbing is grueling work and not for the couch potato or ill. Put together a good exercise program that’ll get your body in the proper condition months before you go.
