This 95-mile stretch of coast in Dorset is truly spectacular, with crumbling cliffs, fossils and clear water. You can hike along the coast, stopping at idyllic pubs, or just go down for the weekend.
Just an hour or so by train from London, this once rundown seaside town underwent a real renaissance thanks to an influx of new residents from the capital. The traditional seafront had a renovation, and there is even an outpost of the Turner Contemporary art gallery.
Another spot easy to reach by train from London, New Forest is home to great nature, walking trails and even wild horses. Book a cottage for a few days to really get away from it all.
This Lancashire town is classically Victorian in style and has wonderful beaches, shopping and a golf course. It’s a quintessentially British summer destination that’s great for those who want to see how the Victorians developed coastal areas of the country.
