Trends / Food & Drink

To meet the demands of today’s more adventurous, experience-driven travelers, hotels are striving to provide more creative, engaging and authentic offerings for guests. One of the ways hotels are expanding experience offerings is with cooking classes, which allow travelers to more fully immerse themselves in the culinary culture of the destination they’re visiting.

One of the best parts of the cooking classes is they are an experience guests can take with them after they leave the hotel, and the skills and memories gained are far more memorable than any gift shop purchase.

Several popular hotel chains around the world are expanding these culinary activities. The Peninsula Hotels now offer cooking classes through Peninsula Academy, offered at all locations. The Anantara chain offers its Spice Spoons one-day immersion classes in hotels throughout Asia and the Middle East. Cooking classes are also popping up at individually owned hotels and boutique chains around the world, allowing guests to not only try local foods but actually learn to prepare them with traditional techniques and locally sourced ingredients.

Learn how to make homemade pastas in Southern Italy, traditional Biryani-rich dishes in India and authentic chilaquiles in Mexico. This new trend is another great way to truly immerse oneself in a different culture, which, for most, is the ultimate aim of travel.
