Summer is undoubtedly the season for EDM, so take some time in the spring to indulge in the underground side of electronic music. Here are five festivals in the United States worth checking out.
Desert Hearts
When: April 1–4,
Where: Los Coyotes Indian Reservation, Calif.
Located two hours away from San Diego in the remote California desert, Desert Hearts is an escape from the mega-festival circuit. This community-oriented festival only sells a few thousand tickets for small crowds and an intimate feel.
Lucidity Festival
When: April 8–10
Where: Santa Barbara, Calif.
Lucidity is more like Burning Man than Ultra, labeled as a transformational festival devoted to the counterculture, sustainability and personal growth, in addition to playing a variety of non-electronic music as well.
Further Future
When: April 29–May 1, 2016
Where: Moapa River Indian Reservation, Nev.
It might be near Las Vegas, but Further Future is an entire world apart from Sin City. This invite-only festival is an offshoot of the Burning Man’s Robot Heart camp, featuring an offbeat lineup of electronic music acts.
Moogfest
When: May 19–22
Where: Durham, N.C.
Moogfest is heaven for electronic music nerds, founded by the late Bob Moog who lived in Durham for the last 30 years of his life. Moogfest not only showcases eclectic artists like The Orb, GZA and Grimes, it also features a variety of workshops, lectures and panel discussions about electronic music culture and technology.
Movement Electronic Music Festival
When: May 28–30
Where: Detroit, Mich.
This year, the birthplace of Techno hosts the 10th anniversary of Movement, held in Hart Plaza over Memorial Day Weekend. This year’s festival is highly anticipated with the acclaimed electronic band Kraftwerk set to take the stage for a special 3D performance.

United Continues Its Global Expansion
United Airlines keeps soaring to new heights, recently announcing another expansion of its leading global route network. The airline added new non-stop flights between Newark (EWR) and Marrakesh (RAK), Morocco; Tokyo (NRT) and Cebu (CEB), Philippines; and Houston (IAH) and Medellin (MDE), Colombia. That’s not all: United also plans to increase flights to popular worldwide destinations including Hong Kong (HKG); Seoul (INC), South Korea; and Porto (OPO), Portugal.
