Start your day off with a simple and seasonal breakfast at Milk Crate, an artsy café beloved by locals near bohemian Cuba Street. Muesli, baguettes, croissants, muffins, scones and more will call your name, along with some tea, organic coffee or hot chocolate. You’ll be able to walk out only spending around $10 for a pastry and coffee.

Since you’re already within walking distance of Cuba Street, take a walk around the area to explore a bit. There’s a multitude of bookshops, art galleries and vintage second-hand stores.

You’ll want to visit the Mount Victoria Lookout for a comprehensive view of the city. The lookout is free and can be reached both on foot and by car. It’s the perfect place to check out the entire expanse of Wellington and the harbor.

For an affordable yet upscale dining experience, grab lunch at Portlander. Try the Lamborghini, a lamb burger fried in duck fat, with the truffle fries on the side for $25. Or you can go for something a little bit lighter, with the power salad featuring red quinoa, chickpeas and balsamic roasted beets.

Walk off your lunch at New Zealand’s national museum, Te Papa. Entry to the museum is free. Notable exhibits include the world’s heaviest and most complete colossal squid and 11 galleries featuring the national art collection.

Indulge your sweet tooth either for dinner or a late-night snack at The Little Waffle Shop. All waffles are $7 and come in luscious flavors such as Snickers, lemon meringue pie, Rocky Road and caramel cookie crumble.
