Under $100 / North America

Saint Paul, Minnesota’s capital, is home to cultural, historical and outdoor activities. Follow our tips for seeing the city on less than $100 per day.

Enjoy breakfast at The Buttered Tin. The bakery and café opens daily at 7 a.m., and serves up American breakfast classics made with locally sourced ingredients. Grab a treat from the bakery case on your way out. Spend about $15 on breakfast. Visit the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. Built in 1915, one of the main features is the glass-domed conservatory boasting an expansive garden of exotic plants and beautiful displays. The zoo boasts natural habitats for a variety of animals including bison, flamingoes, gorillas, polar bears and sea lions. Open year-round, hours vary by season. Admission is free, though a voluntary donation of $3 for adults is encouraged.

For Carolina-style barbeque in Minnesota, have lunch at Revival. With its first location in Minneapolis, the newer Saint Paul outpost serves up fried chicken, barbecue plates, sandwiches and sides. Spend about $15–20 on lunch. Take a stroll along Summit Avenue. The nearly four-mile street boasts a large collection of Victorian buildings and runs down to the Mississippi River for an impressive view. Tour the unique, hands-on exhibits at the Science Museum of Minnesota. Tour the experiments gallery to create a tornado, learn about the human body and control a wave. Adult admission for the museum starts at $18.95.

Have a romantic dinner at Meritage. The menu reflects the season, to offer the best cuisine. Savor a glass of wine from the impressive wine list. Entrees start at $16. Grab a nightcap at Bad Weather Brewing Company. The brewery produces ales as unpredictable as the Minnesota weather. Enjoy the year-round picks and look out for unique, seasonal brews. Open daily, sample a flight of beers for $10.
