Analysts compared the United States’ 100 most populated cities across 24 metrics including average monthly fitness club fee and highest percentage of people who engage in physical activity.

Analysts compared 24 metrics within two key dimensions: budget and participation, and sports facilities and outdoor environment.
Data used to create the rankings was compiled from the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Council for Community and Economic Research, Numbeo, Little League Baseball and Softball, the Trust for Public Land, Meetup, the Alliance for Biking and Walking, Yelp, U.S. Squash, Global Tennis Network, WalkScore, Golf.com and WalletHub research.
