March 8 is International Women’s Day, a holiday to celebrate the accomplishments of women everywhere and bring attention to the still relevant issue of gender equality. If you’re looking for a few ways to celebrate, here are some great events to check out in destinations around the globe.
If you’re in London, stop by the week-long Women of the World Festival, which runs March 8–13. The mix of paid and free events include debates, talks, readings, performances and more, addressing topics such as equality in the workplace, body image, sex, childcare, race and more.
The New York City branch of Oxfam America is hosting their annual Oxfam Jam, featuring feminist musicians at a March 7 event that starts late enough for you to stop by after work. The event is being hosted at Brooklyn’s The Knitting Factory and proceeds go to fight poverty and social injustice.
Sydney has an impressive lineup of celebrations for the day. In addition to multiple talks and celebrations the day of, there’s the annual Sydney International Women’s Day March the weekend after, combating violence against women.
One unique event in Ontario encourages more girls to get interested in aviation as a career path, with the Girls CAN Fly! Celebration. The event is free and introduces girls to a supportive community that celebrates women in not only aviation, but any science, technology, engineering or math field.
