Destinations / North America

While you might think of St. Petersburg, Florida, and the adjacent Clearwater, as being destinations more suited to your grandparents, think again. This destination is becoming a thriving art and cultural hub, with lots of up-and-coming chefs. Additionally, the area’s expecting some big growth and adding nearly 2,500 hotel guestrooms as a result.

Think you might want to visit in 2020? Here are a few spots to check out.

St. Pete Pier

St. Pete Pier will open in the spring with 26 acres of activated waterfront parkland. The plans include an urban beach, eco-tourism activities, a pop-up market and plenty of dining. The highly anticipated development will be the place to see if visiting the area.

Museum of the American Arts and Crafts Movement

When it opens next year, the Museum of the American Arts and Crafts Movement will be the only one of its kind in the United States. The $90 million, five-story museum is dedicated to arts and crafts from the early 1900s (1900–1930).

Feather Sound Karol Hotel

The first Tribute Portfolio Hotel in the county, Feather Sound Karol Hotel will offer more than 120 guestrooms and suites, a signature bar and a rooftop bar overlooking Tampa Bay.

La Pergola

Opening in downtown St. Petersburg, La Pergola is the brainchild of Top Chef’s Fabio Viviani. The restaurant will serve high-end Italian eats and boast a vibrant lounge and bar with an impressive mixology program.

Wine Bars

If you love wine, you’re in luck if you’re visiting St. Petersburg. A number of wine bars popped up in the city and you can be one of the first to visit them. One of the more unique is Book + Bottle, a wine bar meets book shop, to combine two of your favorite hobbies.
