America’s National Parks are seen as the best natural wonders the country has to offer. Millions of visitors, both native and foreign, flock to these parks each year to stare in awe. But not every park is really worth the price of admission. Here are five U.S. National Parks just a tad overhyped.
Great Smoky Mountain National Park
The Smokies are the most visited national park in the United States with more than twice the amount of annual visitors than the second most popular. But, really, outside of a couple of months, they aren’t really much to write home about. Sure, the fog makes for some cool views, but it gets old pretty quick.
The problem with Yosemite? It’s so crowded there are days you can’t even stop your car to look at anything. Poor management led to serious overcrowding and, while the towering vistas are remarkable, they’re not worth spending six hours driving in a circle.
While Grand Teton certainly has some wonderful landscapes when the sun begins to set, it’s not something you can’t find elsewhere. The Rockies and Glacier National Park both have more breathtaking views.
Yellowstone suffers the same issue as Yosemite — there are just too many people to enjoy it. While the gushing geysers and alpine lakes are absolutely beautiful, it’s difficult to see any of them around the throngs of tourists posing in front of their selfie sticks.
The Grand Canyon is America’s most famous national park, as evidenced by the torrent of foreign tourists here all year long, but it’s also kind of overrated. Sure, the sheer depths of the canyon are pretty epic, but once you’ve seen one part of it the rest starts to melt together. Plus, the gross price gouging happening here is just insulting at this point.
