Now returning for the eighth time is the Roots Picnic, held on Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing. The Roots will be hosting the event Saturday, May 30, handpicking an eclectic lineup of musical artists for a day of great music.
This year’s headliners include a rare Philadelphia appearance from The Weeknd, in addition to a highly anticipated performance from Erykah Badu, who will be backed by The Roots as well. Electronic rock duo Phantogram and New York MC A$AP Rocky round out the day’s headliners, but with this year’s addition of a third stage, there will be plenty of performances for you to see.
2015’s lineup also has star producer DJ Mustard, Hiatus Kaiyote, Rae Sremmurd, Chronixx and the Zincfence Redemption, the legendary Afrika Bambaataa, Raury, King Britt, Bishop Nehru, Moses Sumney, Brianna Cash, EDM-darling Hudson Mowhawke, Marc E. Bassy, Donn T and Win Butler of Arcade Fire, performing as DJ Windows 98.
At the time of writing, tickets are $103.95, available at ticketmaster.com. The festival gets sold out almost every year, so be sure to get your tickets now. The Roots have also become the face of Philadelphia’s 4th of July Jam, whose lineup will be announced in the early summer.
