The second weekend in July, Elmira, Ore., hosts an event for free-spirited, artsy travelers. For an array of vegan and vegetarian food, smoothies, eclectic folk entertainment and artisan hand-made crafts, look no further than the Oregon County Fair.
Come prepared for eccentric fun with attendees decked out in costume, body paint, masks, headdresses or no clothing at all. Make your way to the arts and crafts venue to check out some of the 700 artisans selling their hand-made crafts.
After some shopping and browsing of the arts, fill up on some of the truly innovative food available. Often, more than 60 culinary booths have offered hemp-nut burgers, organic enchiladas, tofu bites and much more.
This festival is unique in many ways, one being there is no alcohol served. Instead, fair-goers should expect to wash down their vegetarian meal with a fruit smoothie.
In keeping with the theme of the Oregon County Fair, the entertainment is wild, unique and original. With folk music playing, jugglers, poetry and puppet shows on the list of events, there will be something interesting to check out any time of the day.
The Oregon County Fair has been known to be a free-flowing, earth-loving event created in the image of Woodstock. Attendees often get into the spirit of the event with spiritual expression through dancing, singing and fully immersing themselves in the gypsy-style event.
